About the Talk
In the last three years, the global economic system has confronted unprecedented and profound financial instability. The legendary investor, Mr. George Soros will, in conversation with Anurag Behar Vice Chancellor of Azim Premji University, present his views on the implications of the current state of the world economy and on current policy responses to the ongoing U.S and European Financial Crises. He will discuss the role of Asia, and particularly India, in the future of the global financial system. He will also elaborate on his current philanthropic efforts aimed to helping refocus the field of economics to face the challenges of the coming century.
About George Soros
GEORGE SOROS has been a prominent international supporter of democratic ideals and causes for more than 30 years. His philanthropic organization, the Open Society Foundations, supports democracy and human rights in over 70 countries. Born in Budapest in 1930, George Soros is Chairman of Soros Fund Management, LLC. As one of history’s most successful financiers, his views on investing and economic issues are widely followed.
About Anurag Behar
ANURAG BEHAR is the Vice Chancellor of Azim Premji University and CEO of Azim Premji Foundation. He has been closely involved with efforts to improve education in India for the past ten years. He has earlier played leadership roles in business as the CEO of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering and has also led Wipro’s investments in two strategic diversifications in to environment related areas – in the Clean Energy and Water sectors. Anurag has served on the Board of Wipro GE Healthcare Ltd. He is a member of the Board of the TERI University. He serves on various government & industry councils, such as with the Planning Commission’s higher education group, with the CII’s National Climate Change Council. He is a member of the Corporate Executive Council of Wipro Limited and continues to provide leadership to the social and ecological initiatives of Wipro Ltd.
